Accommodation and travel website Trivago has named McLaren Vale the ‘best-rated destination for accommodation in South Australia for 2017’, rating fifth nationally.

Based on 175 million traveler ratings from over 250 online booking sites, Trivago analysed destinations with a minimum of 12 hotels and a total of 1000 combined reviews or more.

McLaren Vale Grape Wine and Tourism Association General Manager, Jennifer Lynch, acknowledges the united effort in creating memorable stays for the region’s 1 million annual visitors.

“With over 125 wineries - 75 with cellar doors – and more than 60 tourism businesses offering boutique and high-end accommodation, interactive tours and transport options, McLaren Vale’s tourism offering is as diverse as its people,” said Ms Lynch.

“Our region’s collaborative and generous nature, unique combination of world-class wines and produce - both on the farm and on the plate - with a beach lifestyle, ensures that visitors receive a truly a unique and welcoming experience.”

The Hon. Leon Bignell MP – Minister for Tourism, has praised the recognition for McLaren Vale.

“Congratulations to McLaren Vale on winning the "best region in South Australia" and fifth best region in Australia at the 2017 Trivago Awards,” said Minister Bignell.

“As a proud resident and local member, I know McLaren Vale is one of the most stunning places on earth.

“With its beautiful beaches, premium food and world-class wine - just 45 minutes from the city - it's easy to see why the region is so highly acclaimed."

The Trivago accolade follows the recent announcement of Adelaide being named as one of the top five places to visit in the world in Lonely Planet's ‘Best of Travel 2017.’

South Australia was ranked fifth, behind Choquequirao in Peru, Taranaki in New Zealand, The Azores in Portugal and North Wales in the United Kingdom.
