Hacking the Future of Shiraz announces First Release Tasting of Vintage 2024

Early in 2024, Inkwell Wines announced the Hacking the Future of Shiraz challenge which invited five winemakers to regenerate Shiraz as we know it.

Now, one year on, you have the exclusive opportunity to taste these wines in a masterclass style tasting hosted by Inkwell Wines and each of the participating winemakers.

The first public tasting of the six Hacking the Future of Shiraz Vintage 2024 wines will take place on 11 January 2025 at the Inkwell Wines tasting rooms at 377 California Road Tatachilla in the McLaren Vale Wine Region between 12 and 5PM.

The six winemakers involved, Steve and Jemma Fielke (J&S Fielke), Erin Pooley (Little Frances), Michelle Li (Ms. Li), Darcy Chiswell (Daa See), Nick Dugmore (I. Am.) and Irina Santiago-Brown (Inkwell Wines) will all be in attendance to share their experiences innovating a new path forward for fresh and approachable styles of Australian Shiraz.

The project is the brainchild of the team at Inkwell to celebrate Inkwell becoming the first Regenerative Organic Certified vineyard and winery in Australia in 2023 and one of the first 15 certified in the world.

Inkwell’s Dudley Brown said that “we recognised the positive changes that have occurred as a result of regenerative practices since 2019 and thought the best way to demonstrate these is as wines.” In each of the last two years, our Co2 sequestered has exceeded our Scope 2 CO2 emissions by 8 to 10 times for the year. Net zero is well within the industry’s grasp in a shorter time frame than previously envisioned.”

“We chose to celebrate these outcomes with ‘below the radar” winemakers by giving them access to “A” quality phenologically ripe grapes at much lower sugars than are typically grown in industrially managed vineyards. We believe this is the most exciting combination of events going on in the Australian wine landscape.”

To accelerate the project, the producers are sharing all of their winemaking notes publicly for others to learn from and use to encourage rapid innovation and conversation across the Australian wine industry beginning with Vintage 2025.

Tastings will begin on the hour starting at 12PM and last 45 minutes. Guests with bookings will be prioritised for seating. Bookings and details are available at: https://inkwell.simplybook.me/v2/#book/category/1/service/12/count/1/

Mixed six packs will be available for sale on the day. Winemakers, wine students and consumers are all encouraged to attend.
